Het Akoesticum is gevestigd in de voormalige Johan Willem Frisokazerne uit 1906. De reden was de instelling van de algemene dienstplicht in 1901. De gemeente Ede werd als geschikte locatie gezien vanwege de relatief goedkope grond, vlakbij het spoor, en de geschikte oefenterreinen op een steenworp afstand. Beide kazernegebouwen, zowel de Frisokazerne als de daarnaast gelegen Mauritskazerne, stonden al langere tijd leeg. Het concept Akoesticum \u2013 een trainingscentrum met veel grote ruimtes \u2013 was erg geschikt voor de herbestemming van het Frisogebouw. Binnen \u00e9\u00e9n jaar kreeg het gebouw zijn historische kwaliteit terug. De catering wordt zorgvuldig samengesteld door de huiscateraar Kookkazerne.
